A quilting friend suggested I get this panel since I was fond of horses panels. This quilt was started on a quilt retreat in Branson Missouri where I met up with some Mississippi quilt friends. The challenge on this was the lack of colors, basically a two-color quilt. The look on the horse’s face is a wonderful story of a horse and rider that are in one accord. It’s like the horse knows his own and his rider’s strength. Peace and contentment are spelled out in the contract of light and dark, and the use of empty space. The chaps, boot and a clean white shirt inform us that the rider is well used to riding and not expecting to get dirty. I had to reach outside of my stash to find a large number of sepia color fabrics to keep the blocks from looking the same and to add color value. There are only 3 different blocks around the panel. I looked for blocks that had a western feel to them, that spoke of championship belt buckles and cow brands. I decided on only a top and bottom border around the panel once I saw them on the design wall. It kept it simple.
